Therapy for Transgender, Neurodivergent & LGBTQ+ Youth in Connecticut

Specialized, developmentally informed care for children, teens, and young adults — in person in Southington and online across Connecticut

If you're in Connecticut and searching for a therapist who truly understands transgender and gender-diverse young people — especially when gender identity intersects with neurodivergence, trauma, or anxiety — you may have already discovered how hard that search can be. Waitlists at gender programs are long. Many therapists list "LGBTQ+ affirming" without specialized training. And families often need more than validation: they need someone who understands how identity, development, and nervous systems interact.

That's the work I do. I'm Rachel Doyle, Ph.D. (she/they), a licensed psychologist based in Southington, Connecticut. I see clients in person at my Southington office and online throughout the state — serving families from Hartford, New Haven, Waterbury, Bristol, Cheshire, Farmington, West Hartford, Meriden, and communities across Connecticut, from Fairfield County to the shoreline to the Quiet Corner.

Who I Work With in Connecticut

  • Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse children, teens, and young adults — including gender identity exploration, dysphoria, and navigating school, family, and community

  • Neurodivergent young people — autistic and ADHD clients, including those navigating masking, emotional regulation, shutdowns, and overwhelm

  • Queer and questioning youth and young adults — LGBTQ+ affirming therapy for minority stress, identity, and belonging

  • Parents and caregivers — support and guidance when your child is questioning or transitioning and you want to get it right

Many of the young people I see are working through several of these at once. That intersection is my specialty, not a footnote.

In Person in Southington or Online Anywhere in Connecticut

My office is in Southington, an easy drive from most of central Connecticut. I hold a full, independent psychologist license in Connecticut, so I can also provide telehealth to clients located anywhere in the state. Sessions take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform, and some families choose a mix of both — in-person when it works, online when it doesn't.

For children and teens, I work closely with parents and caregivers throughout — you're part of the process, not on the outside of it. And for many neurodivergent young people, telehealth offers the comfort of being in their own space, with no commutes after school.

Fees & Insurance

Sessions are $300 for 50 minutes. I'm an out-of-network provider and can supply a superbill for you to submit to your insurer — many Connecticut plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. A limited number of reduced-fee slots are reserved for clients who would not otherwise be able to access care. You can find full details on my Rates & Billing page.
