Online Therapy for Transgender, Neurodivergent & LGBTQ+ Youth in Rhode Island

Specialized, developmentally informed telehealth for children, teens, and young adults across Rhode Island

Rhode Island is a small state, and for families looking for a therapist who truly understands transgender and gender-diverse young people, that can make an already hard search harder — the pool of providers with real specialized training is small, and many families end up commuting to Providence-area systems or even Boston, or settling for a therapist who lists "LGBTQ+ affirming" without depth behind it. And when gender identity intersects with neurodivergence, trauma, or anxiety, families often need more than validation: they need someone who understands how identity, development, and nervous systems interact.

That's the work I do. I'm Rachel Doyle, Ph.D. (she/they), a licensed psychologist providing online therapy for children, teens, and young adults throughout Rhode Island — Providence, Cranston, and Warwick, Newport and South County, the East Bay, and every corner of the Ocean State.

Who I Work With in Rhode Island

  • Transgender, nonbinary, and gender-diverse children, teens, and young adults — including gender identity exploration, dysphoria, and navigating school, family, and community

  • Neurodivergent young people — autistic and ADHD clients, including those navigating masking, emotional regulation, shutdowns, and overwhelm

  • Queer and questioning youth and young adults — LGBTQ+ affirming therapy for minority stress, identity, and belonging

  • Parents and caregivers — support and guidance when your child is questioning or transitioning and you want to get it right

Many of the young people I see are working through several of these at once. That intersection is my specialty, not a footnote.

How Online Therapy Works in Rhode Island

I'm authorized to provide telehealth to clients in Rhode Island through PSYPACT, an interstate agreement that allows licensed psychologists to practice across participating state lines. Sessions take place over a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform. For children and teens, I work closely with parents and caregivers throughout — you're part of the process, not on the outside of it.

Telehealth works especially well for the young people I serve: access to specialized care that may not exist locally, no commutes after school, and for many neurodivergent clients, the comfort of being in their own space. And if you're in northern Rhode Island, in-person sessions at my Southington, Connecticut office are also within reach.

Fees & Insurance

Sessions are $300 for 50 minutes. I'm an out-of-network provider and can supply a superbill for you to submit to your insurer — many Rhode Island plans include out-of-network mental health benefits. A limited number of reduced-fee slots are reserved for clients who would not otherwise be able to access care. You can find full details on my Rates & Billing page.
